The Role Based on the recognisable 'Rippling Waters' as the successful candidate, you will report directly to the Manager and assist with the day-to-day management of all livestock on the 2140-hectare mixed enterprise. Currently, the property runs 1,000 composite cows, with offspring sold as feeder cattle at approximately 430kg, and 3,500 composite ewes, producing prime lambs that are predominantly finished on grass to domestic markets. Your primary focus will be on high-level stockmanship, ensuring optimal health, welfare, and performance across both the cattle and sheep mobs. This includes overseeing daily feeding programs, developing and implementing seasonal livestock plans, and managing all yard work and handling in a low-stress manner. You must be proficient in all livestock movements, which are conducted using buggies and your dedicated team of working dogs. Additionally, you will be involved in the management of predominantly perennial grass/sub-clover based pastures as well as Lucerne/chicory pasture systems to ensure a high-quality, low cost feed base for breeding and finishing of livestock. While major fodder cropping is handled by contractors, duties will include general property maintenance, assisting with machinery operation, and ensuring a strong focus on property infrastructure upkeep. A commitment to evidence-based practices and maintaining a safe workplace is essential for this hands-on, senior position.
